At 17:18, the concourse beneath Cape Town Station belonged to people who had perfected the art of leaving.
They flowed around one another without apology, guided less by sight than by habit. Office workers loosened ties as they walked. Students threaded through gaps that seemed to close as quickly as they opened. Security guards ended shifts while restaurant workers began theirs. The station inhaled one city and exhaled another.
