The school gate clicked shut behind Wanjiru. Kamau remained where he was for a few seconds, watching the sea of navy-blue uniforms disappear into the courtyard. Somewhere inside, a bell rang. Children’s voices rose briefly before dissolving into the orderly silence of classrooms.
