Some morning are nothing special.
There are children to get ready; somewhere to be; work; and, often, a phone that never seems to stop ringing.
For Mariama, it’s just another school day in Freetown. It’s another day when her mother calls to talk about family, the children, something her mother has found. There is nothing unusual. Not yet, at least.
Sometimes, it is only later that we understand the weight of an ordinary conversation.
Sometimes, “Call you later” is just a sentence, until it’s not.
